Head Coach John Carroll


Coaching at Wahoos for three decades, John has been the coach of the Senior A1 group and Wahoos full time facility manager since 1987. He is a level 5 ASCA (American Swim Coaches Association) coach and was Middle Atlantic Coach of the year in 1987 and 1992. John is a 1978 graduate of Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) with a major in business. John and his wife, Barb, have 5 children.

Karen Clemens
Karen has been the head coach of Junior A1 since 1987 and has coached at Wahoos since 1981. She has been honored twice as Middle Atlantic Age group Coach of the Year  twice and has also been listed in "Who's Who of American Teachers". Karen is the Health and Physical Education Chair at Bishop Eustace Preparatory School. She is a co-moderator of the National Honor Society and the SADD club. Karen is the assistant coach of the girls cross country team at Eustace. She completed the 2003 Florida Ironman, (a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run), has completed 12 marathons, qualifying for the Boston Marathon three times, and competed in four Half-Ironman events. Karen is married to Wahoos Masters coach Jeff Clemens.

Bruce Brockschmidt
Bruce has coached at Wahoos since 1990, and assists Karen Clemens with the Junior A1 group and works with Senior A1 on a limited basis. He still holds the Jersey Wahoo OPEN long course record in the 200 IM. A graduate of Southern Illinois University, where he majored in Exercise Science, Bruce specialized in the 400 IM and swam both the 400 and 200 IM in the 1988 Olympic trials. He trains with the Masters program and competes in various open water swims. Bruce won 2004 & 2006 "Great Chesapeake Bay Swim", a 4.4 mile swim across the Chesapeake Bay.

Bob Querubin
Bob is a former Wahoos swimmer and has been coaching at Wahoos since 1986. He is the Head Coach of the Senior A swimming group. He has also coached the Haddonfield Memorial High School girls and boys swim teams since 1992.

George Breen
George has been an assistant coach of Junior A since 2002, and Jersey Wahoos is honored to have this former world record holder and two-time Olympian on deck. He retired as coach and manager of GCIT, and is now here at Wahoos. George’s swimming career began when he entered college at SUNY-Cortland, NY. He joined the swim team because the school didn’t offer rowing (his sport in high school). At Cortland he met legendary coach “Doc” Counsilman, who later coached George at Indiana U. while George studied for his master’s degree. Displaying talent in distance swimming, George set his first world record in the 1500-meter freestyle, lowering the existing record by 13-seconds. At the 1956 Olympics in Australia, he lowered his own world record by another 13-seconds (though he did it in the prelims!) He won three medals at the “56 Games - two individual bronze and one relay silver. During the next four years he won 22 US National Championships, set six world records and competed in the 1959 Pan Am Games. At the 1960 Olympics he won a bronze medal in the 1500 free. George later served as manager of the 1975 Pan Am swim team and the 1980 Olympic swim team. His vast coaching experience includes Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia, U. of Penn‘s swim team, Team Delaware and, most recently, GCIT’s swim team. George has headed a myriad of swimming organizations such as the American Swimming Coaches Association and the USA Olympic International Committee. He is an inductee into the International Swimming Hall of Fame. in 2010 he was inducted into the Greater Buffalo Hall of Fame recently he was also inducted into the Bishop Timon High School Hall of Fame. He also is the recipient of many other honors, including the US Swimming Award.

Jim Villa
Jim has coached at Wahoos since the Fall of 1993 as head coach of Junior A and his fifteenth season as a National Team assistant coach. He also assists Junior B1, and Senior A. Jim has swum in the Delaware Valley area since he was an age grouper, under the coaching of George Breen. At the University of South Carolina Jim captained the swim team for two seasons and held records in the butterfly and medley relays. He earned “Gamecock of the Meet” honors twice for his performances at conference championships. He received his master’s degree in physical education in 1976. Jim spent many years coaching USA and college-level teams nationwide before returning to Wahoos in 1993. He is currently instructing more than 350 Wahoos athletes. Jim is also head coach of the Wedgewood Swim Club team, moving them from the “C” division to a second place finish in the 2006 Championships.

Jeff Clemens
Jeff has been a coach of the Masters’ group at Wahoos since 1995. Jeff is an original Jersey Wahoo who started in the sport as a Sea Jay in 1970. His successful swimming career includes competing in AAU, USS, high school and summer club meets. His 13-14 boys butterfly record in the Tri-County Swim League is one of the oldest standing records around. Jeff has taught swimming lessons and stroke mechanics at Wahoos, and has coached all groups from Junior B on up. He is married to Junior A1 Coach Karen Clemens.

Patrice Cahill
Patrice has coached a Jersey Wahoos since 2001. She swam at Wahoos from Training Camp through her college years. While in college, Patrice was a key member of Bucknell University women’s swim team. She graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in biology and secondary education. Patrice is a guidance counselor and a biology teacher at Sterling High School in Somerdale NJ.

Ken Faykes
Ken has coached at Wahoos for twenty two years and is currently coaching the Senior A practice group. He is a graduate of University of Connecticut, where he was a New England conference gold medalist in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle as well a member of a record setting 400 yard freestyle relay in the Big East Championships. Ken was a four-year varsity letter winner and received the University of Connecticut’s “Outstanding Senior Athlete” Award. Ken was also team captain his junior and senior years. He currently operates three Subway franchises in Philadelphia.

Chris Waggoner
This is Chris’ 19th year of coaching at Wahoos. He is currently the Head Coach of the Mini A swim group. Chris was also a Middle Atlantic Zone All Star team Head Coach for four seasons. He is a 1996 graduate of Temple University and 2007 graduate of Rider University, where he received his Master’s degree in Special Education. He is a 1st grade inclusion teacher in the Pemberton Township School District. Chris and his wife, Gwen, have three children, Allie, Maddie, and Gabe. When not on pool deck, Chris enjoys fishing with his girls, bike riding, drinking Starbucks coffee, and driving to Disney World.

Nancy Curtis-Pegues
Nancy is currently finishing her 16th year as the head coach of Junior B1. She is married to Joe Pegues, an assistant coach at Jersey Wahoos. Nancy is a graduate of West Chester University and earned her master’s degree from Immaculata College. She swam competitively for many years and now enjoys watching her son CJ and daughters Annie and Amanda swim. She has been coaching competitive swimming since 1980 and has been involved in USA Swimming, college and summer club swimming in various capacities. She enjoys working with other coaches. Nancy’s many talents include cleaning, gardening and homework. To keep her sanity she is never without her needlepoint.

Chris Brookover
Chris is in his 13th year of coaching at Wahoos .For 2010 – 2011 Chris is the Head Coach of Early Sr. A and assistant to both Mini A and JR A. Chris started his swimming career at ACES Swim Club in Denver Colorado and was a junior national and senior national swimmer before going to college at the University of Wyoming. At Wyoming Chris was team captain for both his junior and senior years and capped off his swimming by winning the 100 Butterfly (49.22) at the Western Athletic Conference Championship’s in 1985. Chris immediately began coaching, serving as assistant on the Wyoming staff in 1986, and then moving to become the assistant coach for Colorado State University. Chris and his wife Maria are the proud parents of Jaimie-Lynn, 16, Duncan 13, and Jackson 9, who are all Wahoo swimmers

Amy Hutchinson
This is Amy’s fourth year coaching at Jersey Wahoos but is no stranger to the team, Amy swam for Jersey Wahoos from 91-95, while attending Rancocas Valley High School, After Wahoos, Amy swam for Wright State University and was a member of the Division 1 Mid West Conference Championship team 2 years in a row. Amy has a BA degree in Psychology from Rutgers University, along with a BA in communications from Wright State University. This is Amy’s second year as head coach of TC 2 and previously has worked with TC1 and the National Team. resides in Haddon Twp with her husband Coach Todd and daughter Shelby.

Jesse Palmer
Jesse is in his 8th year of coaching at Jersey Wahoos where he works with Mini A, Training Camp II, Training Camp I, Pre-Teams 1&2, Junior Preps A&B, and he is also in his 13th year teaching lessons. Jesse progressed through the Wahoo program since the age of 8 into Sr A1 eventually earning a partial scholarship to Towson University. Locally he swam for Cherry Valley and Cherry Hill High School West for a combined 23 years dedicated to swimming excellence. Jesse graduated from Rowan University with a Bachelors in History. He plans on continuing his education for his Master's in education and will go with the old Wahoo adage, “...The sky is the limit.”

Meredith Morley
Meredith has coached at Wahoos since 2004, where she coaches Junior A. For ten years, Meredith was a coach at Larchmont Swim Club. While attending the University of Richmond in Virginia, Meredith earned a BA in Mathematics. She currently teaches Mathematics at BCIT-Westampton, where she coaches the girls basketball and Varsity softball teams.

Tricia Hafner
This is Tricia’s fourth season coaching at Wahoos. She is an assistant coach for Mini A and Jr A1. She swam and graduated from Rider University. She has been the head coach of Pomona Swim Team in the Tri County League for the past fifteen years. She is a 2nd grade teacher at Rice Elementary School in Marlton.

Chrissy Tripodo
Chrissy is in her 6th year of coaching here at Wahoos. She is the assistant coach of Mini A and JrA. Chrissy has been a member of the Wahoos family since she began swimming here at age 7. She attended Cherry Hill East High School where she graduated in 1998 and was a member of their state championship swim team. Chrissy spent her summers swimming for Woodstream Swim club. Chrissy is presently working as a Special Education teacher in Camden City, NJ and has her Masters degree in Special Education from Holy Family University.

Todd Hutchinson
Todd is a former Wahoo swimmer who is completing his eighteenth year as an assistant coach in Senior A. Todd previously has assisted with Training Camps 1 and 2, and Junior A1. He is a University of Delaware graduate and was the captain of the swim team. He has also coached Riverdel Swim Club. He is a physical therapist with Coastal Spine and lives in Haddon Township with his wife Coach Amy and his children Shelby and Drew.

George Willard
George grew up in the South Jersey area and swam for both Jersey Wahoos and Riverdel Swim Club. As a swimmer he set numerous Club and Tri-County records. Coach George was a lettterman and scholar athlete at Florida State University. He was captain of the FSU team in 1993. His first coaching job came for the Willingboro Park League while in high school. While in college Coach George assisted in the running of the Nike Swim Camps at Florida State and coached the Maclay School of Tallahassee. While earning a Master’s degree at the University of West Florida Coach George served as head age group coach and Masters team coach of the Greater Pensacola Aquatic Club (GPAC). There he coached several Southeastern Swimming Champions and NAG TOP 16 swimmers, some of which just competed at the last Olympic Trials. During this time he served as a zone All-Star coach for Southeastern Swimming. While still in Pensacola he coached Washington High School to a state AAA championship and several individual district AAA champions. Upon returning to New Jersey, Coach George returned to coaching at Jersey Wahoos and Wexford Leas ofthe Tri-County League. While with Wexford the team earned two division tiitles and a 19-6 record in five years. Swimmers under Coach George also set several Tri-County records and earned several gold medals. He now coaches Woodbine Swim Club Coach George lives with his wife, Danielle, daughter Campbell, and sons George and Samuel in Delran. He has taught in the Maple Shade School District since

Ann Rychlik
(formerly Ann Czerniakowski) In her ninth year of coaching, is the head coach of the Pre Team. In the past Ann has been the head coach for the Pre Teams and Training Camp I and Assistant for Mini A, Jr B1 and Jr A. Ann swam competitively for Wahoos from ages 6-18 and also was a member of the Junior National Team. Ann swam at the University of Connecticut where she majored in political science and earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration. She also earned a Masters of Science in Elementary and Special Education at Saint Joseph’s University. She is currently a teacher at Cherokee High School, and recently completed her principals certificate and is Head coach of the girls swimming there. She is also the Head Coach of the Tiger Sharks of Ramblewood. She is married mother of three.

Tara Rodack
This was Tara’s fourth year as a coach at Wahoos for Junior B1. It feels like just yesterday that Tara was a swimmer at Wahoos herself with Nancy and Jim as her coaches. For the past four summers she has been an assistant coach to Coach Nancy at Green-Fields Swim Club and she looks forward to another summer at Green-Fields. Tara graduated from Villanova University with a BS in Education and a BA in History. In her free time Tara loves to run and has completed seven half marathons and one full marathon.

Vanessa Rosa
Vanessa is completing her fourth year as an assistant coach of Senior A1, Early Senior A, Junior A1, Junior A and Junior B1. She is a former Jersey Wahoos swimmer, and a graduate of The Richard Stockton College of NJ with a BA in Literature and Secondary Education. She is currently in graduate school working toward a degree in Special Education and a Reading Specialist certification at Holy Family University.

Denise Paglia
This is Denise’s first season coaching again at Jersey Wahoos, she previously coached Mini A in 2003 and 2004. She is an assistant coach for Training Camp II. She swam at Wahoos for many years. Denise lives in Philadelphia with her husband and 2 children.

Bob Cristella
Bob has been coaching at Jersey Wahoos on and off since 1988. He has been the head coach of Junior A and Senior A along with asst of A1 Mini A. He also coached 3 zone all star teams. He currently is an assistant coach of Senior A1. Bob also is the Head Coach of Riverdel Swim Club, Delran High School, he is also the varsity coach of Delran High School boys lacrosse team. Bob owns and operates Shamrock Deli in Audubon NJ.

Danielle Willard
returns to coach at Wahoos after a 7 year hiatus. Previously, she was an assistant coach to both the Mini A and Early Senior A groups, as well as, the head coach of Training Camp. She swam with the Masters and competed in many open water swims and triathlons. Dani is currently assisting the Training Camp I group. She is a graduate from Lebanon Valley College. In college she was a three sport athlete and was just inducted into their Hall of Fame. During the school year she teaches 7th & 8th grade special education in Palmyra. Dani lives in Delran with her husband Coach George and their daughter Campbell and 2 sons George and Sam.

Doug Mann
Doug is in his second season coaching at Wahoos and his first as Head Coach of Training Camp I and the Competitive Readiness program. Doug also assists with Pre team I, Pre team II and Junior Prep B. He has been a swim instructor at Wahoos for the past 4 years. Doug is currently a certified athletic trainer and associate professor in health and exercise science at Rowan University. He has authored several articles related to physical education, strength and conditioning, and athletic injury prevention. He recently authored two textbooks on injury evaluation. Doug is a former competitive triathlete, having completed over 20 triathlons.

Max Ettore
Max Swam at Deer Brook Swim Club growing up, helping lead the Bluefish to numerous Tri-County and Burlington County Championships. Max swam at Jersey Wahoos starting at the age of 13 and continued through college. Attended college and swam at Penn State University. This is his first year coaching at Jersey Wahoos.

Bryan Hsu
Bryan Bryan is in his 2nd year assisting the Junior A1 group. He attended the University of Maryland and is currently attending Rutgers School of Law - Camden. He previously coached at RMSC in Maryland.

Joe Pegues
Joe has worked for the past 12 seasons as an assistant coach of Junior B1, Junior A, and the Early Senior Group. He is a 1985 graduate of Kenyon College and holds master’s degrees from both the University of Virginia and Rutgers University – Camden. A former Wahoos swimmer himself, Joe also competed for Moorestown High School and was a member of three NJSIAA state championship teams. At Kenyon he helped his swim team win four consecutive NCAA Division III championships. Joe is currently employed as an English teacher at Woodbury High School, where he is the high school swim team coach. He has also served as the vice president of the SJISA High School Swimming Coaches Association.
