Lifeguard Training Course Dates and Challenge (recert) Dates

To register for a class, fill out the registration form.

Bring the filled form and deposit to Jersey Wahoos.

Make sure to include the class dates you wish to sign up for

Cards will be mailed using supplied self-addressed stamped

envelopes about three weeks after your last class session

Prerequisites:

To be eligible for the Lifeguarding course, the participant must be 15 years of age on or before the final scheduled session of this course. The participant must successfully complete the following:
- Swim 300 yards continuously, using the following:
  - 100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick. Rhythmic breathing can be performed either by breathing to the side or to the front.
  - 100 yards of breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence
  - 100 yards of either the front crawl or breaststroke. The 100 yards may be a combination of the front crawl and breaststroke.
  - Note: There is no time requirement for this skill. The participant must show only that he or she can swim 300 yards using the above strokes without stopping. The purpose of the swim is to demonstrate comfort in the water.
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using the front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Upon successful completion of the Lifeguarding course, each participant will receive two American Red Cross Universal Certificates - one indicating Lifeguarding/First Aid, which is valid for 3 years, and another indicating CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, which is valid for 1 year. Cards will be mailed using your supplied self-addressed stamped envelope.

To receive the two course completion certificates for the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course, the participant must:

Attend all class sessions
Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities
Demonstrate competency in the three final skill scenarios
Correctly answer at least 80 percent of the questions in the three sections of the final written exam.

Challenge Course:

Jersey Wahoos will be holding Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR Challenge. Please be aware that the American Red Cross has implemented a new Lifeguard course. This means in order to re-certify you will have to purchase a new textbook to pass the test and complete requirements. The cost of the textbook (pictured above) is $36.00. You may borrow from a friend. There will be a highlighted textbook available to view at Jersey Wahoos to aide in studying.

In order to challenge you MUST:

Fill out bottom portion and return with full payment to the office.
Purchase a new book
STUDY- You must come prepared to take the test and water skills. If you fail the test it will result in loss of payment and you will have to retake the whole course.

If you are taking the Lifeguard portion, please bring suit, towels, and goggles.

If you are taking CPR, please bring your pocket masks. If you do not have your pocket masks, you will NOT be able to participate. Pocket masks can be purchased at Wahoos for $15.00.

Cost for CPR Only Challenge is $40 (paid in full)

Cost for Full Challenge (CPR, Lifesaving, First Aid) is $100 (paid in full)
